Dr. Malkin,
Oncologist and Cancer Researcher
Dr. David Malkin is a clinician-scientist and paediatric oncologist with Sick Kids Hospital in Ontario and has received more than $3 million in funding from the Terry Fox Foundation. He is also the Director of the pan-Canadian Precision Oncology For Young people (PROFYLE) which focuses on children and young adults with hard-to-treat cancers in Canada. Join Dr. Malkin to learn about the incredible progress and impact of cancer research. Suitable for grades 4-12.
Kirsten Fox,
Terry's Niece
Kirsten Fox is Terry’s eldest niece and has worked at the Terry Fox Foundation for over 10 years. Most of her time has been spent working in the School Department where she was proud to support schools in BC and Yukon host their Terry Fox Runs. Kirsten enjoys sharing her Uncle Terry’s inspiring story with students. Like them, she never got to meet Terry Fox, but she knows that one person can make a positive change in the world, just like Terry did. Suitable for all grade levels.
Christopher Garner,
Amputee and Golf Champion
Shortly after having his left leg amputated in 2018 due to complications from recurring Osteochondroma, Chris was introduced to the world of Adaptive Sports. Hear his remarkable journey from overcoming this significant challenge to winning the 2022 World Long Drive Championship in Golf. Drawing strength from Terry Fox’s legacy, Chris continues to push the boundaries of his capabilities, passionately advocating for normalizing different abilities and sharing his empowering message. Suitable for all grade levels.
Owen McDonald,
Cancer Survivor
Meet Owen, a 17-year-old high school graduate who is passionate about volleyball, music, and gaming. Diagnosed with Stage 3 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in grade 10, Owen’s journey was challenging but he never gave up, thanks to the support of his family, friends, and beloved pet, Ronald. At a young age, Owen deeply admired Terry Fox for his resilience and determination, viewing him as a superhero for his efforts to make the most out of his diagnosis and inspire others, and is committed even more now to keep Terry’s legacy going using his own personal experience. Suitable for all grade levels.
Suad Ismail,
Cancer Survivor
Suad Ismail has always felt a deep connection to Terry Fox’s story. She participated in the Terry Fox Run every year in school until, in eighth grade, she was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma, the same cancer that Terry Fox courageously battled. Fortunately, her leg was saved, but the experience resonated deeply with her. She was determined to finish school and fulfill her dream of having a family of her own. Today, she has over a decade of experience as a social worker and is married with three children. Join Suad as she shares her story of how Terry’s message of hope became a guiding force in her life. Suitable for all grade levels.
Dr. Anne-Marie Mes-Masson,
Cancer Researcher
Dr. Anne-Marie Mes-Masson is a Professor at the Université de Montréal and the Associate Scientific Director at its teaching hospital, the Centre de recherche du Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal. She has conducted research in ovarian, breast and prostate cancer and will be sharing how her research focuses on new treatments for cancer and the development of personalized cancer care. Suitable for grades 4 and up.
Jackson Charron-Okerlund,
Cross Canada Marathoner
Jackson Charron-Okerlund, widely known as CrossCanadaJax, is a passionate advocate for cancer research. After running across Canada and raising $100,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation, Jackson now serves as a School Ambassador in New Brunswick. Through this role, he will share stories from his remarkable cross-country journey, inspiring students with his message of perseverance and resilience. As a guest virtual presenter, Jackson hopes to reach students across Canada, connecting Terry Fox’s legacy with his own experiences and motivating a new generation to embrace hope, community, and the spirit of giving back. Suitable for all ages.
